Item Flags is game mechanic added to the game to control amount of items dropped on death as well as preventing player from sharing their unique items. Each in game item can have one of the following flags.
These flags are bound directly to items, so when player gives a DnD item to another player, the item preserves this flag. However when the item is used in crafting, the flag is lost in the process.
Flags

Do Not Drop
Items with Do Not Drop (or DnD) flag will not be dropped on death, but the player will not regain these items after respawn.
Preserved
Preserved flag ensures that the item will stay in player's inventory even when they die and respawn. Player can however throw away/get rid of the item normally.
Locked
Locked items behave in the same way as DnD flagged items in terms of dropping on death, but along that, player cannot get rid of them aside from dying (drop them, put them in containers, use them in crafting). After death the item is lost.
Bound
Bound items behave exactly the same as Locked items, but they are preserved when player die. So there is no way outside Creative mode/commands to get rid of such item.
Vanishing
Vanishing items are similar to DnD flagged items, but they vanish when a player drops them.
Locked Vanishing
Locked Vanishing items are on top of Vanishing items cannot be stored in any container and cannot be used for cradting.
