Holding Flags in Cithare nets points to the controlling team. This page describes in detail the mechanics of capturing and holding of flags as well as how points for flags are determined.

Flag scoring

Flags award points per second (pps) that increase in time. The formula for points per seconds is

is time in minutes (the flag progress), is the characteristic time of increase and is a multiplier based on the current time of day.

Flag capture mechanics

Basic terms

Flag holder - the team (which can be white if the flag hasn't been captured before or uncaptured by Pirates), that has long-term control of the flag. The flag banners represent the holding team.

Flag contestant - team that recently captured the flag (broke the glass). They are represented by the beacon colour.

Contesting a flag

A flag is captured by breaking the glass block on top of the beacon. This changes the glass colour to the contestant's, crosses the flag banners with their colours and starts the contesting countdown. It ticks down from 32 seconds to zero, recolouring the carpets around the flag to reflect its progress. During this time, the holder's flag progress is paused and the contestant starts their own progress. If the holder manages to recapture the flag, the contesting countdown starts to tick up.

When the contesting countdown reaches zero, the holder of the flag is changed to the contestant. The original holder's flag progress is deleted. If a third team captures the flag during the contesting period, the contesting progress is kept; only the contestant team is changed.

If the contesting countdown reaches back to 32 seconds, the contestant's own flag progress is deleted.
